With some trepidation, I have decided to post this here.
[livejournal.com profile] pellegrina may already know this, because she is often 'forced' by me to read my literary ramblings. I even sent her my Borribles story, which I am quite proud of but very, very self-conscious about. [How you getting on with that, Pellegrina? Quiver, wibble...]

With air roots grasping at the moisture and
with leaves a-twisting up and to the light
you dominate my living room and bring
to me self-centered unaware delight.
What do you think my pretty busy plant?
What makes you weave and grow inside your pot,
as if no rose or orchid could compete
with simple beauty of your shiny self?
Each new-green spike, each shapely windowed leaf
a stanza in your jungle-fevered dream
in which the rain drops fall on you direct
from tow'ring trees and birds and insects buzz.
So grow my love and hold that dream for me
until I bring the wat'ring can to thee!

('Cos other people was posting po'try).

I'll sing you one - oh!
Red burn the taillights - oh!

What is your one - oh!
One's for the M6 Motorway that goes from North to South - oh!

I'll sing you two - oh!
Red burn the taillights - oh!

What are your two - oh!
Two's for the carriage ways one in each direction - oh!
and one's for the M6 Motorway that goes from North to South - oh!

I'll sing you three - oh!
Red burn the taillights - oh!

What are your three - oh!
Three, three the northbound lanes,
two for the carriage ways one in each direction - oh!
and one's for the M6 Motorway that goes from North to South - oh!

We went for a trip out today, Parrot Knight, The Marquis and I. We drove down the scenic route into the Lake District and had a look at Castlerigg Stonecircle. Then we went to Keswick and took a look around the Pencil Museum, which was quite interesting and very informative. I was particularly pleased about the discovery that the German word for pencil 'Bleistift' and the idea of a pencil 'lead' came from the mistaken belief that graphite was a kind of lead ('blacklead'). Another interesting discovery was the existence of 'War Pencils' -- these contained a map of Germany and a miniature compass and were given to RAF pilots. The numbers on the pencils were a code for the area of Germany displayed on the map.

Talking of numbers on pencils: the 'H' stands for 'hard', the 'B' for 'Black' and the origins of 'F' in the 1920s has been lost into obscurity.

After the museum visit we went for a pub lunch in a nice pub in the town centre and on the way home we made up the song :-).

On the whole it's been a good day so far.
